Minimalism or Simple Living

So, Which Is It?

When I started working on my website, I talked a lot about minimalism. I truly believed that’s what I was doing. My husband and I had minimized all our possessions and moved to a much smaller place and in general just decided to live with less stuff. Looking back now and reading more about minimalism, I’ve learned that that’s really not what we’re doing at all. We’ve merely chosen to live a much simpler life than before.

While there are several similarities between the two, I believe there is quite a difference. I might also add this is only my opinion, and you know what they say about opinions. Well, let’s just say some may disagree with me.

I believe a minimalist may be one who lives in some sort of “tiny home” and has streamlined their belongings to only what they can not live without.

Someone who chooses a simple life, such as myself, has much admiration for minimalists but hasn’t taken their lifestyle to such an extreme. While they have cut their belongings down considerably, they still possess many things that could be done without.

How to Decide

It was easy for me to decide what I wanted to do. I knew I had too much stuff and I wanted to stay at home with my family instead of working outside the home. That pretty much made my mind up.

If you’re just wanting to cut back on things and live a more peaceful life with less stress, simple living may work just fine for you.

If you are wanting to cut those bills extremely, look into Tiny Homes. It’s amazing how efficient they are and how mobile they’ve become. You can get one put in a permanent location or if you like to travel, that’s an option too. And they are not expensive.
